What is BitCore BTX?
What are the features and why should I start using it?
More than just a hybrid fork
BitCore is a cryptocurrency that emerged as a UTXO fork of Bitcoin, designed to improve various technical and operational aspects of the original Bitcoin. While hard forks like Bitcoin Cash and Bitcoin Gold are widely known, BitCore and hybrid forks remain relatively unknown to many.
Using Bitcoin's source code and technology, BitCore created a new blockchain with a smaller size and better scalability. Block times are faster than Bitcoin's, and mining is ASIC-resistant, promoting greater decentralization.
BitCore has tried to improve Bitcoin and solve the problems that plague it. It uses the MEGA-BTX consensus algorithm, which is ASIC-resistant: centralization of mining power is not possible, as the playing field is level and everyone has more or less the same opportunities. With 10 MB SegWit-enabled blocks, the network is capable of handling 17.6 billion transactions per year – or 48 million transactions per day.
At a glance
- UTXO fork of Bitcoin, launched 24 April 2017
- Max supply of 21 million BTX
- 2.5-minute average block time
- ASIC-resistant MEGA-BTX GPU mining
- Masternodes with only 2,100 BTX
- SegWit and Bloom enabled
- sBTX BEP-20 token on BNB Smart Chain
Masternodes & Odarhom Core
Odarhom brings along a masternode system for BitCore. The collateral for one masternode is 2,100 BTX, which allows up to 10,000 masternodes to support the network. The masternodes receive half of all generated BitCores.
A masternode can be set up with Odarhom Core version 0.90.9.7 or higher. A governance system is included in the core and can be activated later, if necessary.
This gives the entire crypto community the opportunity to earn BTX with PoW mining or masternodes – BTX holders can even do both.
The BitCore timeline
-
Launch & first snapshot – Bitcoin block #463604
The first BTX block was found at 00:59:57 GMT. A snapshot of the Bitcoin ledger at block #463604 was taken, and Bitcoin holders could claim their BTX through the BitCore claiming service by signing a message with their Bitcoin address. Claiming of the first snapshot ended on 30 October 2017.
-
Second snapshot – Bitcoin block #492820
A new snapshot of the Bitcoin blockchain was taken at block #492820. In the following days BitCore created approx. 5,000,000 transactions – with blocks of over 3,000 KB – to automatically fund every address that held 0.01 BTC or more with 0.5 BTX per 1.0 BTC. Holders access their BTX by importing their Bitcoin private key into the BitCore wallet.
-
Weekly airdrops
Every Monday, all registered BTX addresses holding at least 1.0 BTX received an airdrop from the airdrop address, until the remaining coins were distributed around BitCore's first anniversary in April 2018.
-
White Paper released
The first version of the BitCore White Paper was published, followed by Spanish, French, Turkish, Russian, Italian and Vietnamese translations until 2019.
-
Masternodes
Odarhom Core added masternodes to BitCore: 2,100 BTX collateral, half of the block reward for masternodes – combining PoW and masternodes.
-
sBTX token launched
BitCore introduced its first BEP-20 token, Swapped BitCore (sBTX), on the BNB Smart Chain – tradable on PancakeSwap.
